Install Sql Server 2005 On Windows Server 2008 R2 Cluster
Today at work, I had the chance to configure a brand new server. The machine came with Microsoft’s latest flavor of server operating systems,. Windows Server 2008 installation was really fast and easy, reminding of Windows Vista setup. When time came to install SQL Server 2005 the first real problem with Windows Server 2008 has emerged. The SQL Server 2005 was the Workgroup edition, but I suppose that the Standard edition would most probably have the same problem.
Dear All, I have a problem during installation of SQL Server 2005 Failover Cluster on Windows 2008 Failover Cluster. The installation is straightforward as explained by Microsoft presentation in.

Installation of SP2 was successful, but no SQL Server Services existed, and no database engine has been installed. A quick Google search pointed to a Microsoft’s Knowledge Base page, and a potential hotfix. And this hotfix must have saved the day! After the installation of the hotfix, SQL Server 2005 was uninstalled, and server rebooted. Started the SQL Server 2005 for a second time, and this time, more setup options were available. Also the wizard for the database configuration appeared, which was a good sign, as it wasn’t present on the first attempt.
Finished, applied SP2, and this little adventure ended successfully. SQL Server 2005 was then working just fine. On DVE We have a SQL 2005 installation on a Microsoft Server 2003. Now we like to change on Microsoft Server 2008. For this we took a new Server, installed Server 2008 and then SQL 2005 with all the data (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS and so on) from the “old server” Server 2003.
Sql Server 2008 R2 Sp3
Now we realized, the performace of the server 2008 is very poor. One stored procedure (reading one Table and insert to another table), with the same inputdata needs on Server 2003 5 minutes and on Server 2008 20 minutes. The 2008 Server is newer, has more CPU, more mainstorage, better disks and so on. Any idea, why we have this performance problem?
